So you're thinking of adopting a new companion. Do you go for a dog or a cat each have their great qualities. A dog will always be loyal if you treat it nice, they do need more attention and time. With walks and outside potty breaks. Cats are a little less maintenance, they are fiercely independent, and don’t require as much attention like going outside.
You start looking on adoption websites for your new fur baby. What breed are you going for? Is it a cat or a dog be careful when looking online there are tons of rescues out. These rescues are mostly good but some can be scams, it is important to do your research to feel comfortable before you rescue. These places usually have an application fee and very expensive rescue fees that can go into the thousands of dollars. The adoption forms for rescues usually include references and other extremely arduous questions that feel very invasive, and make you hate the adoption experience.
My Adopting experience at Shelters was a relative easy application form and adoption fees were in the hundreds of dollars. With Herby we adopted him during the start of Covid-19 outbreak so we found him on their website. We had to put in an interest and then were called by the shelter to set up an appointment for a visit. This is standard meeting the pet before going home. We were a perfect fit for Herby and adopted him on the spot. We couldn’t take him right away because he needed to be neutered before leaving the shelter so we waited a couple of days and I picked him up and brought him home.
With multiple options to find a pet and companion online and from across the world. It's great to have friends that have used certain rescues or shelters so that they can walk you through the process. Ultimately it comes down to you feeling comfortable with the rescue or shelter. One thing's for sure your life will be changing soon because of your new pet. Enjoy life and hug your pet!
